Fuel costs for the military

Michael Klare of Hampshire College follows closely the military’s use of oil. He says the military is “coming late to an appreciation of their vulnerability to reliance on petroleum.”

A short segment on Marketplace says that personnel and weapons are unlikely sources of cutbacks. Instead, there will be a smaller number of the next generation of weapons produced, plus more solar panels and nuclear powered ships.

A Morning Edition segment says the military burns up 1.5 million gallons of fuel every day in Iraq.
