Bill Kohn to coach again
Could Bill Kohn go for long without standing on the sidelines of a football field in the fall? Probably not. It’s his life.
Now if I could only remember who I was talking with a few weeks ago about Lenawee Christian School’s new football program starting this year. Whoever it was knew right away: Their coach would be Bill Kohn.
Sure enough, he was hired to run the school’s new JV program for two years. After that, LCS will begin competing on a varsity level. Enrollment is down and this was seen as one way to attract new students. All the other small schools in the area know that routine. They watch as some of their best athletes leave the home district to play at LCS. choose LCS over their local school.
This should be a great job for Bill. How often does a coach have the opportunity to build a program completely from scratch, with nothing but some leftover soccer kickers?
He better get out the semi-serious letter I sent him a couple of years ago listing allowable sideline language. Goll-darn. Gee-whillikers. Dagnabbit. Oh holy hellfire. He needed a little coaching and I was glad to give it.

I don’t think Morenci should even play them in sports. Let them go against other private schools.
I don’t see what difference it makes Buster. How is it any different than kids going to Sand Creek or Waldron under the school of choice program? They play sports there also.
I’ve heard the school of choice argument before, but it seems to be a little different with LCS. I remember talking with an LCS mother at a track meet. LCS had just placed first in the county in a relay and the mother of one runner told me that one of the kids was from Jackson. It’s true that someone from Jackson could attend Hudson or Sand Creek or Morenci, but I don’t think that ever happens. School of choice is usually with a neighboring district rather than such a long distance.
Wasn’t LCS’s boys basketball star a couple of years ago from Ann Arbor?
I think there was someone named Glaser from A.A. a few years ago at LCS. I don’t buy the proximity arguement. What difference does that make? The only difference for Morenci is that they are boxed in on the border and can only draw from half the area that LCS can. Onsted and Tecumseh have that same advantage. They’re still choosing to go to a different school. I can’t think of any Morenci district kids that left to go play sports at LCS.
I think your point is that kids don’t attend LCS to play sports, at least not Morenci kids. They go for other reasons. You could be right. I really have no idea if sports is a draw or not. Maybe it’s just a coincidence or maybe excellent coaching that LCS has so many outstanding athletes year after year.
