Well, as of 4:45 a.m. my parents’ new house was all up and running with the exclusion of the internet. As such, and with much frustration, I was blasting up to my work at Holland, on my day off, at about 5:30 a.m. to polish and send a curriculum vitae due yesterday. Holy Hand Grenades: for a good half-minute or so I found myself nearly unable to keep my car on the road. At the time I thought it was just strong gusts, which are customary around here.
When I heard about the earthquake, at about 9:30 a.m., I called my mom. She said the shaking woke her, but thought it was the dog Darla signaling at the foot of the bed that it was time to go to the bathroom. As my mom rose to fetch her robe from the closet, she was surprised by an on demand service: an aftershock jarred and unlatched the door. It swung open right in front of her.
The quake also shook loose a fixture in the upstairs bathroom that wasn’t quite secure to the wall. The workers in charge of installation aren’t happy at all. Of all the factors capable of mussing a workday in Michigan, who’d a thunk an earthquake?
That’s a great story, Jeff. Sorry to know you were up so early. Sybil in Morenci felt it because she was up so late. Living on Main Street, she’s accustomed to having trucks rattle the house. “But this morning was different. As soon as I felt it, I ran to the dining room window and there was no truck in sight.”
Kathy near Pittsford felt it: “The coat hangers in the closet were making noise and I think the sewing machine was rocking. I thought maybe it was the heat coming on but, no, it just kept shaking.”
I recall feeling my house give a shake early that morning, but I could hear a truck driving by. I never glanced at the time. Maybe quake and truck and occurred simultaneously.
