Woodcock

I saw a big, stubby bird walking around in the weeds today near town. It finally flew off and became a cinnamon colored object. I mentioned it to a friend who said it was probably an American woodcock. She sent this link, which is where the photo came from.

I saw a woodcock doing its courtship ritual years ago out on Whitehouse’s land. This is only my second sighting.
