What about the dog?

Susan Orleans wonders about the military’s dog that took part in the bin Laden raid. She refers to dogs as the perfect soldier:

The odds-on favorite is that it was a German shepherd; second-best guess is a Belgian Malinois, which is a type of Belgian shepherd. A teacup poodle devotee might take exception to these guesses, but hey, I’m just doing the math; these are the breeds used most often by the military.

Orleans is never at a loss to find a unique topic to write about and in the blog post linked above she mentions doing research for her book about Rin Tin Tin.
